Impromptu jam session
Jennifer Visick holds a Bachelor of Music degree in viola performance from the Claire Trevor School of the Arts at the University of California, Irvine.
She began to study the violin at age 3 in the Pasadena Suzuki Music Program, eventually moving to study both violin and viola at the Colburn School of Performing Arts before entering college with a primary focus on viola. Her primary viola instructors include John Scanlon, Jerzy Kosmala, Yvonne Creanga, Laura Kuennen-Poper, and Margaret Shimizu.
Jennifer loves learning & discovering new teaching ideas. She enjoys traveling and playing music with anyone who's up for exploring music together. Favorite musical experiences include: improvising string quartets with CAD teachers, leading SECE classes, experimenting with new instruments, creating concert programs as violist of the Elegie Quartet at home and abroad, co-founding SerenaLorraine Duets (a basson-viola duo) while still in college, meeting (as if by chance) and making music with Native American flute maker and performer Keith Bear and "the Empire Builders" in a single 6-hour jam session on a cross-country train ride, playing chamber music with friends, dropping by a local Irish 'trad' music session (mostly to listen), or spending a few hours alone with solo Bach. She plays viola in worship services at her church, Bethany of Sierra Madre, and occasionally performs for private events in the Pasadena/Los Angeles area.
In addition to her primary studies on viola (and violin), she also has an interest in singing, orchestral conducting, playing the pipe organ, handbells, and early childhood education.
She is a member of: CPAF (Christian Performing Artist's Fellowship) SAA (Suzuki Association of the Americas) SMAC-LA (Suzuki Music Association of California, Los Angeles Branch) KUSC (our local "classical music" public radio station) AVS (American Viola Society)
